Ely Southern Bypass

The Ely southern bypass will be a new road connecting the A142 at Angel Drove to Stuntney Causeway. Work started in January 2017 and the new road is expected to be complete in late summer 2018.
In addition, some highways work near Ely Railway Station is also planned as 'phase 2' of the project, associated with closing the current level crossing near the station.
Plans for walking and cycling have been included in this project, seemingly focussed on providing a walking route along the river and up onto the bridge to provide a view of the cathedral; a tourist attraction.
The plans for cycling have taken disappointing turns. There had been a plan to lay on a cycle route from the station half way to Stuntney -effecting a proper walking and cycling crossing of the busy A142. This apparently will not happen.
Similarly, plans for cycling at other points in the scheme look like they will be degraded.
