  • Contractor's fencing part-blocking cycle path

Created by Jon Warbrick // 1 thread

Contractor's safety fencing for some of the work going on adjacent to Addenbrookes has been put up on the adjacent cycle path, presumably because it's easier to to that than put it up in the building site itself. Unfortunately this obstructs about a third of the path.

Whoever did this obviously realised that this was problematic, since they have painted the path side of all the bases yellow. Unfortunately this doesn't help in the dark.

I can't see any obvious contact details for the contractors, apart from 'Tamdown' on an attached 'Danger - Deep Excavation' sign. Anyone any idea how to get this addressed?

  • Blocked Cycle infrastructure Johnsons Lane, Whitehall

Created by Eric Booth // 1 thread

I need to report a problem with a route in Whitehall. The council made a hoohaa about linking the cycle path to St George Park. They installed a contraflow in Stretford Road, a bike crossing over Whitehall Road and signage between the cycle path and the park. Laudable. I have used this route to take my daughter to Whitehall Primary School on Johnsons Road for the last year. She had her first Bikeability Lesson on Sunday and is now riding to school (aged 6 - v. proud!!). However, where the link goes through a snicket between the Kings Head pub and Packers Field it is being blocked by cars. This is making navigating a blind corner even more dangerous. Links to pictures below.

A lot of money was spent on this link and its being rendered unusable.

  • South Worple Way - obstruction

Created by Andrew Woodward // 1 thread

South Worple Way is signposted as part of LCN 37; but the western end of it is blocked off with this obstruction; which leaves only a very narrow gap for bikes to get through. Could you get a cargo bike or a trailer through there?

  • Prince St Bridge - Quick Fix

Created by Eric Booth // 2 threads

Prince St bridge is an anarchic pigs ear. I like pigs and fond of a bit of anarchy but it's getting beyond a joke. Of course it will all be sorted out properly in due course but we could live with this for years. Here's a quick fix:

    SOUTH
    1. Move south vehicle stop line back 10m behind tramlines
    2. Remove all bollards unless one or two kept in line with centre of bridge with arrows right for cars
    3. Widen cycle lane from bridge to Festival way turn so suitable for 2-way cycling.
    4. Put in Give Way painted line at an angle running from enlarged cycle lane to centre line so southbound cyclists alerted to need to filter across traffic.

    NORTH
    1. Remove all bollards
    2. Widen cycle lane for 2 way cycling all the way up to the traffic lights with The Grove.
    3. Remove 5 bollards on each side of north bound traffic light along with the two set back
    4. Paint cycle lane passing behind light and then back onto carriageway making it nice and clear that it's an option for cyclists when lights red or they can carry on (as most will, no worse than now but at least it will be clear that they can treat these as 'give way')
    5. There will need to be 'give way' paint to make clear that pedestrians have right of way on the by-pass.

Yes it's muddled but less so than now and makes the desire lines easier. It's also a cheap paint based fix pending the proper job.

  • Unsuitable Barrier On Malago Greenway

Created by Sam Saunders // 1 thread

The barrier where Malago Greenway joins Cotswold Road/Windmill Hill is unreasonably restrictive - not just to tricycles, cargo and trailer bikes but also to baby buggies and mobility aids. The low hoop presents an unnecessary hazard to anyone with less than good eyesight.

  • Advisory Cycle Lane Being Used As A Car Park

Created by Sam Saunders // 0 threads

The south-west bound advisory cycle lane, marked with dotted lines and with a small traffic island to funnel cycles into it (creating a pinch-point) seems to be regularly used a car park. If the parking is being encouraged or allowed, the island and the markings should be removed to allow the hazard to be more clearly seen. Preferably, the parking should be disallowed and a mandatory cycle lane should be installed.

  • Parker's Piece entrance blockage by street trading

    Martin Lucas-Smith // 1 thread

The entrance to Parker's Piece has been blocked at various points over the last year by thoughtless location of a street-trading van.

Trading in this location should be permitted only further along the path so that conflict between cycles and pedestrians in an already-confined space is reduced.

  • Palewell Fields pedestrian route - obstruction

Created by Andrew Woodward // 1 thread

The path linking Bank Lane to Palewell Fields is currently pedestrian only, with gates across it. Opening this up to cyclists would improve permeability and provide a quiet route to Richmond Park Academy school from Roehampton (east-west); and to Ibstock Place school from Sheen (west-east).

  • New kerb on cycle route by Sydenham Station

Created by Shaun McDonald // 0 threads

On passing on Saturday I noticed that Lewisham have moved the block point of Verner Road to the junction, however this seems to have added and obstruction for cyclists. It could be that once the work is complete it will no longer be an issue as from the other side there is a dropped kerb.

Note in the photo the signage of the cycle route on the lamppost on the left.

  • Cycle barriers on Northgate cycle route

Created by Gregory Williams // 1 thread

The cycle link between Brymore Road and Forrester Close, Canterbury has two sets of cycle barriers. These make it difficult to cycle and impossible to take a tandem cycle along the route. They also cause difficulties to people pushing prams and those in wheelchairs and using mobility scooters. The cycle barriers should be removed.

  • Bollards on Cycle Track in Starcross

Created by kirbyjames // 0 threads

The short length of narrow cyclepath contains two black bollards. (presumably to stop small cars using thbe cyclepath) These present a hazard to cyclists - we are aware of three cyclists havingh been injured hitting them.
It is recomended that they be removed.

  • Car parking on cycle path at North Foreland

Created by Gregory Williams // 1 thread

Inconsiderate parking of cars on the shared-use RCR15 Viking Coastal Trail cycle path at North Foreland. This has completely blocked the path to cyclists and pedestrians. The photo clearly shows a pedestrian trying to get past the parked vehicles.

  • Bollards on footway near Hemingford Road

Created by cobweb // 0 threads

The proposal is to install two bollards on the corner of Hemingford Road in order to prevent cars from mounting the pavement. The pavement here (as with much of Mill Road) is not that wide. A build out was considered but it was felt that this would create pinch point of cyclists.

  • Trans-Pennine Trail Access at Urmston near Manchester

Created by Richard Alderson // 0 threads

Near Cob Kiln Lane commuter route to Urmston Rail Station Cyclists and pedestrians are supposed to use this kissing gate. The dwell space is far too small and very muddy. There is a horse stile as well which is equally muddy - this is a major access route to the Trans-Pennine Trail

  • Green Dragon Bridge

Created by Jim Chisholm // 2 threads

Currently there are 'No cycling' notices despite this being a major cycle route.
Although it is unlikely that major works can be done to the bridge, changes on the approaches could reduce the conflicts, by improving 'intervisibility' between the different users.

A meeting between various parties (Councillors, County bridge engineer, cycling officers, and cycling campaign is proposed.
