  • M2/A249 Stockbury Roundabout

Created by maidstoneonbike // 1 thread

Highways England are spending up to £100 million on changes to this roundabout. The following is from their website:

Traffic using the M2 junction 5/A249 Stockbury roundabout suffers delay and the junction has a poor safety record. The approach to the junction from the north and east, in particular, experiences high levels of delay and the junction is identified in the list of the top 50 national casualty locations on the trunk and motorway network.

An increase in capacity is necessary to accommodate traffic from planned new developments and the capacity problems are also inhibiting economic investment plans.

Improvement of the junction was proposed in Swale Borough Council’s Draft Transportation Strategy 2014 and in Kent County Council’s framework for regeneration in 2010 (Growth without Gridlock). It is also proposed within the South East Local Economic Partnership’s Growth Deal and Economic Plan 2014.

The scheme was included in the March 2015 Roads Investment Strategy (RIS) and in our Delivery Plan 2015.

    Aims
The objectives of this scheme are to:

reduce travel time and improving journey time reliability in the hotspot areas
    reconnect communities
reduce and the impacts of pollution
enable local planning authorities to manage the impact of planned growth and in doing so support the wider economy
provide safer roads with fewer delays which can adequately cater for the impacts of adverse weather
minimise impacts on the natural environment and optimising environmental opportunities and mitigation
provide opportunities for improved accessibility for all users

    ---

There is an opportunity for cycling and walking provision, and Highways England have suggested that Maidstone Cycle Campaign propose such provision to them so they can make arrangements to sort funding for it.

Any suggestions for cycling and walking provision would be beneficial

  • Fixing none optimal lanes

    Phil Wigglesworth // 1 thread

I cycle past this junction a lot, and sometimes the lights are red so I wait and look at the lanes and wonder why they're like this.

  • South Road, Southall

Created by Martin Gorst // 1 thread

Ealing council is proposing a new road layout for South Road in Southall. It will remove an access road to create a wider pavement, but provides no extra space for cycling.

  • Dangerous T junction

Created by Kevin Ablitt // 1 thread

Twice in the past week I have been cycling up St Johns to make a rh turn onto Cauldwell Hall and nearly been taken out by a driver taking the corner too fast as they travel north bound along Cauldwell Hall and turn down St Johns Rd.
The problems are too fast traffic on Cauldwell Hall and poor design at that junction , need an island to separate traffic.

Recently a cyclist was knocked off here while trying to turn right out of Constantine Road . The car driver took the corner without obeying the white line markers. Needs hard infrastructure changes .

  • Cemetery Lane layout creates conflict

Created by Kevin Ablitt // 0 threads

To carry on towards Colchester Road or bear right into Belvedere Road is OK but if you are approaching the junction from Belvedere Road and wish to turn into Cemetery Lane northbound you must come right up to a blind corner and make a sharp turn into a narrow kerb edged cycle facility. This is quite a dangerous manouevre to carry out. It would have been better to have a lane entering the wide oad marked with stop lines and no-entry as it is further back from the blind turn. In fact some people may be tempted to do this, but it is both dangerous and illegal. Both the danger and the temptation to carry out an illegal manouevre could have been excluded at the design stage.

  • New Road Layout Wade St & Lamb St Junction Old Market

Created by David Wilcox // 1 thread

The junction of Wade Street and Lamb Street used to have a dedicated segregated cycle lane to enable cyclists to turn right (against the traffic on the one way Lamb Street) via a pedestrian Pelican crossing to get to the Park opposite. This park has connections to the Bristol 2 Bath Railway Path and Temple Meads.

Speaking to the Council Officer at the cycle forum on 17/01/2013, It seems that this road layout is changing. Cyclists will be able to join the widened pavement much earlier on Wade Street to cross at the Pelican Crossing. This will cut down on collisions with cyclists having to cross the traffic at the junction.

The work was not subject to a normal Council Consultation as much of the work is being done by Wessex Water who are laying some pipes in the area. Changing this junction would of cost in the of £150k and the council are only being charged £5k for the work.

No final details are available for the junction layout, so we need to keep an eye on this junction

  • Satchfield Close parking improvements

Created by David Wilcox // 0 threads

As specified in the website below there is a consultation on Satchfield Close in Henbury Bristol.
    https://www.citizenspace.com/bristol/city-development/satchfieldclose

Looks like parking is a problem for the locals as they can't seem to drive a car onto their driveways.

The council is keeping the large tree in the scheme and hopefully it will stop the inhabitant's from parking on the pavement.
