  • Dangerous cycle route at Heath Road

Created by Caroline Page // 1 thread

Eastbound cyclists wishing to avoid the double roundabout at this point are routed onto the pavement, across the exit for the Shell garage (often to the surprise of exiting drivers), and then (still across pavement) onto a piece of decommissioned road used as access and double-sided parking for a parade of shops. This road has a separate car entrance from the roundabout.
Its a lethal combination -I have personally once been hit by a car turning fast from the roundabout on the road entrance as I entered it from the bike route. The driver was very angry because it was my fault that she didn't look out for me. You then have to cycle between two sets of parked cars/vans: there are frequent hazards: suddenly opened doors, people reversing/leaving the parking place without looking behind.
At the end, the cyclist is signed again onto pavement heavily used by schoolchildren/old people at the eastbound Heath Road Roundabout bus stop, before being routed back onto the road along the pull-off for the bus itself.
My personal view is that this scheme has been created and signed by a maniac

  • Improvong route from University to Belmont

Created by Matthew Phillips // 1 thread

There is a demand for access to the University from Belmont and areas to the east of Durham. Creating a route across the playing fields towards Old Durham would shorten journeys and give a mostly off-road route.

It would require a new bridge and a tarmac surface. Note sure if there would be issues of potential flooding. Not sure if the University would co-operate with route across its land.

  • Improved towpath in Barnes

    Created by Paul L // 1 thread

Raising and re-surfacing path that we have been complaing about since forever. Pity it isn't wider, doesn't go all the way to Mortlake Brewery and the White Hart has obstructive seating but still worth celebrating.

  • Roadworks and Signing- general

Created by Al Storer // 4 threads

A citywide (and indeed beyond) problem is poor consideration given to the needs of cyclists and pedestrians during road works- eg "cylist dismount" sign use

  • Calton Gardens / Holloway

    Created by Mark A // 1 thread

A dropped kerb at this point would improve the route that people can take to cycle between Bear Flat and the city centre - making it easier to use Calton Gardens to avoid the section of footpath on the alternative via Holloway and St Marks Church.

  • Land Purchase – Waste Transfer Site, Bristol Bath Railway Path

Created by David Wilcox // 0 threads

    Proposal
To investigate the purchase of land adjacent to the Bristol Bath Railway Path (BBRP) to provide a link to the Dings Railway Path which connects to Temple Meads station.

    Rationale
The BBRP is one of Britain’s busiest off-road pedestrian and cycle paths with over 5000 people using it daily. The current link to Bristol Temple Meads is via St Phillips Road and Horton Street, both of which can be heavily trafficked with vehicles travelling at speed. A continuation of an off road route into Temple Meads would be very popular and help achieve the Local Enterprise Site aims for sustainable transport.

  • Land Purchase – VOSA, Bristol Bath Railway Path

Created by David Wilcox // 0 threads

    Proposal
To investigate the purchase of land of the Car Park of the VOSA building adjacent to the Bristol Bath Railway Path (BBRP).

    Rationale
The BBRP is one of Britain’s busiest off-road pedestrian and cycle paths with over 5000 people using it daily. The path narrows at its approach (inbound) to the Lawrence Hill underpass, resulting in an uncomfortable experience for path users. Purchase of the VOSA car park would allow the path to be widened through this section.

  • Sharp, uneven bend at bottom of Madley Brook cycle path

    Created by jp.stacey // 1 thread

At the lower end of the cycle path that runs from Church Lane, up Madley Brook to Madley Park, is a bridge set at a weirdly sharp angle to everything else.

Coming from Church Lane, it is immediately after a blind corner, requiring a sharp right turn; then the bridge requires a sharp left turn. At this very point, before the wood of the bridge, the road surface is uneven and has collapsed.

While the cycle path apparently has to briefly join the footpath - no permission given for a way through on the south side of Madley Brook? - it does so in a very dangerous way, which is difficult even for experienced cyclists to negotiate, and provides no visibility of other route users including pedestrians.

  • Cycle path too narrow, road space needs reallocating

Created by Fonant // 0 threads

This stretch of NCN2 has not had the too-narrow footway widened to allow for safe shared use. Oddly the part just to the east, where the existing road was narrower, has been widened.

We need some of the wasted five lanes of motor vehicles to be re-allocated to allow the footway to be widened to be wide enough for shared use. They could even make use of the now-redundant cycle lane on the road heading west.

  • Active travel in A10 corridor (south)

Created by Jim Chisholm // 5 threads

There is a suggestion of a group looking at issues for those cycling in the A10 corridor between M11 J11 and Royston. This is, in part about cycling along the corridor, but mainly about access between villages and access to rail stations. Of course the A10 north of Cambridge has LSTF money, but there are currently few funds available for improvements in this area.

  • Whittlesford Station

Created by Jim Chisholm // 1 thread

The possibility of a new cycle/walking route from Whittlesford station in part using funds from proposed adjacent development (Relocation of Welches transport depot from Stapleford/Shelford
The platform which is c 264m long extends beneath A505 overbridge.
Longest trains are 240m (12 coaches). This route was investigated some 10 years ago.
Greater Anglia say a route is not possible. I regard this as a stuck rather than locked door.
It may be possible with the use of a fence to take over all of last few metres or to have half (if half cyclist dismount signs may be needed)
As a very last resort to may be REQUIRED for those with bikes to walk.
I can see no reason why a walking route cannot be permitted.
Any 'risk' crossing A505 at grade must be orders of magnitude greater than using end of platform!

  • Car parking on cycle path at North Foreland

Created by Gregory Williams // 1 thread

Inconsiderate parking of cars on the shared-use RCR15 Viking Coastal Trail cycle path at North Foreland. This has completely blocked the path to cyclists and pedestrians. The photo clearly shows a pedestrian trying to get past the parked vehicles.

  • Bell School development

Created by cobweb // 3 threads

Outline planning permission was given in 2008 for this development of up to 347 houses. In 2011 a reserved matter relating to the design on the junction was refused by the Joint Development Control forum. This is still a subject of debate. Another concern is the path adjacent to Babraham Road which is much used by staff at Addenbrooke's either on foot on by bike.

  • Green Dragon Bridge

Created by Jim Chisholm // 2 threads

Currently there are 'No cycling' notices despite this being a major cycle route.
Although it is unlikely that major works can be done to the bridge, changes on the approaches could reduce the conflicts, by improving 'intervisibility' between the different users.

A meeting between various parties (Councillors, County bridge engineer, cycling officers, and cycling campaign is proposed.
