  The accidents mainly occur when people are turning from / to side roads and the tram lines cannot be crossed at 90 degrees and by West Street tram stop where the platform juts out into the road.

• West Street Tram lines - accident black spot

  The junction at the top of West Street is dangerous because it is difficult for anyone travelling from Glossop Road onto West Street to cross the lines at a right angle. There is no signage warning of this, although I have seen such signs in other UK cities with trams.

  One cyclist I know suffered a badly damaged shoulder which needed a metal plate to repair it, and resulted in long term discomfort, loss of mobility and strength.

  I revisited the spot yesterday and found that of the 4 lines I could get some kind of angle on 3, but that left me 'between the lines' going down West St with no way to escape. Much to the chagrin of the Ford Transit driver following me!

  There are a lot of accidents here as the tram platform juts into the road, causing cyclists to cross the rails at a less than 90 degree angle.

  I don't know what the best option here, the pavements are quite narrow on either side so I don't think there is the option for an off road cycle path to avoid the hazard.

  There are a lot of accidents by the Leppings Lane as the platform juts out into the road, forcing cyclists to cross the tracks at less than 90 degrees.

  The pavement on the inbound platform is very wide and there is room for an off road cycle path to go round the platform and rejoin the road afterwards.

  There have been a number of accidents where the tram lines curve across the road on Donetsk Way as it is not possible to cross them at right angles.

  There is just grass and hedges on either side of the road and so it would be quite easy to install off road cycle paths along Donetsk Way.

  There have been a number of accidents here where the tram lines curve across Sheffield Road to the Birley Moor tram stop. The rails cannot be crossed at right angles.

  There is loads of open space around here where off road cycle paths could be installed.

  There have been a lot of accidents around the tram stop at White Lane because of the way the platform juts into the road.

  There are only hedges behind each of the platforms and so a cycle path on either side of the road could run behind the platform, avoiding the hazard.

  There have been a number of accidents here because of the angle that Shrewsbury Road joins Granville Street, and also the way the tram stop platform juts out into the road forcing cyclists to cross the tracks.

  Because the pavements are narrower here I don't think there is room to provide an off road route around the stop. Therefore an alternative, signed cycle route should be provided to avoid this tram stop.

  the off road cycle path along Infirmary Road which currently ends at the Junction with Whitehouse Lane could be extended along Langsett Road on the left hand side of the road as you go away from town towards Hillsborough. At the moment there is just a grass verge from Primrose Hill to Bamford Street.

  This is because the platform juts into the road - causing cyclists to have to cross the tracks.
  However, there is ample room behind the tram stop platforms on either side of the road for an off road cycle path. Currently there is just a grass verge behind the platforms.

  When cycling towards town along Langsett Road it is difficult/hazardous to get to the off road cycle path on the other side of the road which starts on the corner of Infirmary Road/Whitehouse Lane because you need to cross the tram tracks.

  I've received some further oral reports that barriers are still in place and that there may be plans to install yet more.

  We should investigate and find out what's going on here, stop it happening and have the existing barriers removed.
