  • Watercress Park Motorcycle Inhibitor

Created by Marcus Howarth // 1 thread

    Consultation:

London Borough of Sutton is considering installing a motorcycle barrier on the Spencer Road Entrance at Watercress Park to help prevent unlawful use by motorbikes and we are interested in hearing your views. The barriers are designed to allow pedestrians and those using mobility scooters and wheelchairs to enter but to stop motorcycles from gaining access.

We are aware that motorbikes regularly access the site via the  Spencer Road entrance which can cause anti-social behaviour and safety issues.  As part of the Council's commitment to improving the situation for local residents we propose to install an inhibitor gate.

Convert zebra crossing to a parallel crossing (one that allows cyclists to use it) near Mellows Park which would provide a continuous safe facility for cyclists. This would provide links to an existing contra flow cycle lane in Redford Avenue and a large residential area in Mellows Park, and a borough cycle route into Wallington district centre

The pavement here is narrow. Is there a way of improving the environment for walking and cycling at the same time?

  • Cycling and Walking Link - Rickmansworth Station/Colne Valley Trail

Created by Peter Loader // 1 thread

The Colne and Crane Green Infrastructure Strategy includes a proposed new walking and cycling link between Rickmansworth Station and the Colne Valley Trail at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. At its meeting on November 4th 2019, Batchworth Community Council set up a project to ensure that this new route was implemented via Rickmansworth Town Centre, in line with two of Rickmansworth Parish Councillors' strategies.

This would involve designing the preferred route via Bury Lane, Rickmansworth and then part-funding Hertfordshire County Council to create it.

This shows the course of the preferred route, which is open to a phased implementation as funds permit.

  • Wrythe Lane / Tweeddale Road / Thornton Road - proposed changes to junction

Created by Charles Martin // 1 thread

    • Removing the existing access into Tweeddale Road from Wrythe Lane. It is proposed to create new access from Thornton Road across the green space. This will help to reduce vehicle conflicts and provide better pedestrian routes.
    • Converting the closed section of Tweeddale Road to grassed area as shown on the plan in green hatch lines.
    • A raised table is proposed at the new entry into Tweeddale Road to provide a level crossing for pedestrians and to help with slowing down traffic speeds.

  • Leeds New Station Street Improvement Works

Improvements to the pedestrian environment at the front of Leeds Station.

Slightly annoying that this has not come to the Cycle Forum subgroups so this is the first I have seen of it.

It seems to me more could be done to improve connectivity with cyclepoint.

  • Ely Southern Bypass

Created by JohnP // 1 thread

The Ely southern bypass will be a new road connecting the A142 at Angel Drove to Stuntney Causeway. Work started in January 2017 and the new road is expected to be complete in late summer 2018.
In addition, some highways work near Ely Railway Station is also planned as 'phase 2' of the project, associated with closing the current level crossing near the station.
Plans for walking and cycling have been included in this project, seemingly focussed on providing a walking route along the river and up onto the bridge to provide a view of the cathedral; a tourist attraction.
The plans for cycling have taken disappointing turns. There had been a plan to lay on a cycle route from the station half way to Stuntney -effecting a proper walking and cycling crossing of the busy A142. This apparently will not happen.
Similarly, plans for cycling at other points in the scheme look like they will be degraded.

  • Petty Cury Cambridge

Created by Heron // 2 threads

I am mostly a walking pedestrian in our fair city of Cambridge.

There are not many areas where I can walk without being mown down by unexpected cyclists.

Please, please alert yr members that Petty Cury is a no riding a bike area. There are other areas within Cambridge, Christs Pieces areas - Fitzroy and Burleigh Street.

These areas are thronged with slow moving pedestrians often with children running about

  • Missing Cycling and Walking Link

Created by Bracken VanRyssen // 1 thread

The path between Smith's Wood and Water Orton could be a key cycling and walking link and a way to avoid the only other crossing of the A452 and M6, which is the busy and fast Water Orton Road. However the route is blocked off with concrete blocks and is in an extremely poor state of repair with overgrown bushes and an exceedingly unpleasant subway.
