Berechurch Hall Road Speed Limits
Berechurch Hall Road is a busy road that is becoming increasingly residential West of the junction with Berechurch Road (J1). The speed limit has been reduced from 40mph to 30mph, except for a section of 40mph East of J1.
To improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, the current speed limits should be reduced by 10mph (Fig 4.1) and traffic lanes correspondingly narrowed (7.2.5-7).

Camulodunum Way - Baronswood Way Missing Link
The sub-LTN 1/20 white line (6.5.2-3) segregated bidirectional cycleway (Table 5-2 & 5-3) along Camulodunum Way (CW) and Baronswood Way (BW) are not connected, leaving unconfident cyclists travelling North/South along CW via the toucan crossing from the new development 202025 unable to continue North to the Town Centre, as advertised in planning documents.
The gap could be easily filled to the existing standard on CW/BW via footway conversion.

Highgate Road Safe and Healthy Streets
Camden is consulting on making permanent the trial scheme put in during summer 2020:
- Extension of hours of operation to 24/7 – “at all times” for the following bus lanes on Highgate Road:
- the southbound bus lane CMO15 which runs from St Albans Road to Dartmouth Park Road,
- the northbound bus lane CMO16 which runs from Carrol Close (97 Highgate Road) to Wesleyan Place,
- and the southbound bus lane CMO17 which runs from Burghley Road to Fortess Road .
- Waiting and loading restrictions extended to ‘at any time’ in all bus lanes.
- Addition of two loading bays outside 109-111 Highgate Road in CMO16 and outside 12 Highgate Road in CMO17 with hours of operation of 7pm-7am for loading for commercial properties.
They also propose the following new measures
- the extension of the existing southbound bus lane “CMO15” to the north, up to the roundabout with Swains Lane
- the removal of paid-for/permit parking bays along Highgate Road to remove existing pinch points and facilitate the extension of the bus lane (10 outside the tennis courts and 18 opposite Grove Terrace).
- the introduction of ‘at any time’ waiting and loading restrictions at the junction of Highgate Road and Carrol Close, to improve road user and pedestrian safety

Millfield Lane Safe and Healthy Streets
In June 2020, a No Entry (with cycle exception) was placed on Millfield Lane just south of the junction of Merton Lane, making the southern section one way northbound for motor vehicles. In addition, several parking spaces were removed at the bend to provide more space for walking. This was done with an experimental traffic order and Camden is now consulting on making the changes permanent and building a proper footway at the widened section.

Camden also proposes:
- to convert 11 extra parking bays on Millfield Lane to double yellow lines and double kerb blips to improve visibility, reduce conflict between drivers and cyclists and to minimise vehicle movements which are hazardous to pedestrians.
- and to remove parking on Merton Lane close to the junction with West Hill
- and to remove parking at the junction of Merton Lane and Millfield Lane and widen the footway
They also ask whether we would like to have Merton Lane one-way for motor vehicles (eastbound only)

Guided busway hazard
Sunday 26th of September 10.15pm I was cycling from Cambridge North to Histon. I collided with a fence immediately after exiting the A14 tunnel and sustained a dislocated shoulder along with other injuries.
There is definitely a hazard here because
1) the busway and tunnel from Cambridge North are brightly lit. The busway after the tunnel towards Histon is unlit.
2) about 30m after the tunnel the width of the busway tarmac surface suddenly reduces due to the introduction of the gravel strip (approx 1m wide). There is also a fence near the start of the gravel strip (I assume for the small animal tunnel)..
I cycled through the tunnel and noticed a cyclist coming in the opposite direction (without lights), so I took avoiding action by moving to the left. I may have then glanced at my mobile phone on my handlebars. When I looked up I saw the fence in my headlight. I then hit or clipped the fence.

Our proposals at a glance
Transport for London (TfL), together with Lambeth Council would like to know your views on proposals for improvements which will include:
- High quality segregated cycle lanes and bus stop bypasses throughout the extent of the scheme
- Straight-across pedestrian crossings relocated to be where people want to walk and cross the road
- Zebra crossings proposed to cross the cycle lane to signalised pedestrian crossings across the main carriageway
- 2 additional pedestrian crossings
- Bus lanes maintained or implemented and operational hours extended to between 07:00 - 19:00 Monday to Saturday throughout the scheme
- 20mph speed limit throughout
- Changes to side road access including restrictions and closures, redesign and resurfacing
- New traffic signals at the Telford Avenue junction
- Improvements to public realm throughout the route, unlocking areas by removing central brick build planters and planting of new trees and landscaping
- Changes to some parking and loading provision
To complement this scheme we have been working with Lambeth Council to develop a Low Traffic Neighbourhood in the nearby residential areas to the east of the A23. This will complement the A23 scheme by protecting local streets from through traffic and will help deliver wider objectives such as creating Healthy Routes on local roads. Fitzroy Lane has no pavement
Fitzroy Lane is a major walking route to the Grafton Centre, but bizarrely has no pavement.
One of the two parking queuing lanes should be removed, and pavements added on at least the east side of the street, if not both sides.

Red Cross Lane and Greenlands are marked for 20mph and they're very narrow streets barely two cars wide.

Huntingdon Road: Girton Corner area improvements needed
The A14 project is bringing a cycleway into the city as far as the University farm. Previous County projects have created a decent inbound cycleway from Laurence Weaver Road and an almost OK painted lane outbound to here. There's a section of cycleway from Girton Corner to Eddington Avenue, and at Girton Corner there's a connection to The Ridgeway along Bunker's Hill. There are Cycleways intercepting Huntingdon Road at Whitehouse Lane, both into Eddington and into Darwin Green.
But oh dear. Laurence Weaver Road junction is awful. Eddington Avenue junction is awful, and there's a very narrow and much over-run cycle lane to the north of it. Girton Corner junction is poor and serves poorly those who want to go from Girton village and College to the Ridgeway.
The section of road needs a holistic approach that incorporates the route along and the routes crossing in a coherent manner. -
insufficient visibility due to solid building site boundary
The site for the new building between in the triangle between the cycle path the busway, and non-busway road has a solid hoarding around it. To help visibility, the solid hoardings have been removed for 3 panels on the cycle path side, and only 2 on the road side, so traffic has greater visibility of cyclists that cyclists have of motor vehicles - so vehicles assume there is nothing coming and slow down less than they should.
To increase visibility on the corner, the third solid panel should be replaced with the mesh fencing, as has already been done for the first two on the other side.

Mere Way ( ancient path )
This ancient right of way is used by cyclists ,horse riders and walkers and is becoming un approachable with no drop kerbs and
with new roads being built that ignore the existence of this route and lack of clear signage , we are in danger of losing this
important route .

A1 Archway Road
The A1 route requires improvement for safer cycling to provide continuity from the A1000 cycle route in Barnet.
Southbound:
The A1 red route has an unprotected bike lane for the first half of the ascent, although traffic is single file until just before the lights and tends to leave room on the left for most of the climb. However, between the lights at Muswell Hill Road and Shepherds Hill the road has two congested traffic lanes leaving no space for cyclists (see photo). South of this it’s single lane with parking, then a bus lane and then cycle tracks appear at Archway gyratory. The issues south of Muswell Hill Road also affect Haringey cyclists using that road from Muswell Hill.
Northbound:
The A1 route has segregated bike or bus lanes up to Shepherds Hill lights, where it becomes two congested traffic lanes between there and the Muswell Hill Road lights, leaving no space for cyclists. Emergency social distancing provision has led to the left lane being fully cordoned off to provide extra pedestrian space for the shops, which squeezes cyclists into the remaining traffic lane. North of Muswell Hill Road is a fast, single lane descent with parking on the left for the first half. The Bakers Lane gyratory can be navigated to the A1000 without changing lanes, although other traffic is crossing lanes making this hazardous for cycling.
Haringey cyclists heading for Muswell Hill have the added problem of a difficult right turn off the A1 into Muswell Hill Road.

Proposed Trial Changes to Haverstock Hill and Rosslyn Hill
Camden proposes the following measures:
- New cycle lanes, protected by flexible wands, will be installed on both sides of Haverstock Hill and Rosslyn Hill (between Prince of Wales Road and Belsize Lane).
- On the northbound side, cyclists will have to use the existing bus lane from Belsize Avenue on – the bus lane times will be made 24/7.
- All parking and loading spaces are to be removed from this section of Haverstock and Rosslyn Hill to make space for the cycle lanes. Some will be replaced in side roads.
- All pedestrian refuges at informal crossings are being removed to make room for the cycle lanes. Five of the existing ‘uncontrolled’ crossing points on Haverstock Hill will be replaced with four new zebra crossings and one new signalised crossing .
- Shared use bus boarders will be deployed at the eight bus stops – bus stops will be moved into the carriageway to allow for the cycle lane to continue next to the kerb.
- At the junctions with England’s Lane and Pond Street ‘pedestrian countdown’ facilities, ‘early release’ for bikes and extended ‘Advanced Stop Lines’ will be provided subject to approval from TfL
- Timed loading bays (Mon-Sat 10 am - 2pm) along (on southbound side opposite Steeles Road Haverstock Hill and full time loading bay opposite Belsize Lane.
- If the consultation is agreed, cycle parking will be added at the shopping parades.
- New cycle lanes, protected by flexible wands, will be installed on both sides of Haverstock Hill and Rosslyn Hill (between Prince of Wales Road and Belsize Lane).

No cycling space on Marine Parade
Residents of Kemptown are unable to join the Madeira Drive cyclepath approaching it from the north unless they cycle along Marine Parade to the Pier or to the Duke's Mound sliproad. This means they have two options:
1) cycle on Marine Parade which is a busy A road.
2) cycle on the promenade which is unofficially shared with pedestrians.
Neither of these options are safe.

CBC Wayfinding Survey
Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) is currently in the process of developing a new wayfinding system for the communal, external spaces within the campus. This system will include new maps and signage to improve navigation in public spaces for staff, patients and visitors to the site and help to reduce stress when visiting the campus. In order to fully understand how the campus is currently used and the key issues, we would like to gain your invaluable input.
Note that the new wayfinding system will be focussing on the public space rather than the internal space of individual buildings, please limit your feedback to your experience of finding your way through the external public space on campus. Thank you in advance. -

Removing exclusionary barriers across Cambridgeshire
Camcycle's time and energy is consistently taken up removing exclusionary barriers (e.g. Biomedical Campus, A14 active travel bridges, Warren Road). We need to consider long-term ways to prevent new barriers going in and remove existing ones which prevent people of all ages and abilities cycling.

Long wait to cross Busway / Station Road, Histon
Pedestrians and cyclists at the toucan crossing where the busway meets Station Road, Histon have to wait a long time for the lights to change even if there is zero bus or road traffic.
This seems inconsistent with Highway Code rule H1 about the hierarchy of road users. Pedestrians should have priority over non-existent buses!

Unlit post hazard
Where the path splits there is a marker post that is completely invisible at night. It should be fitted with reflective material or removed.

People cycling being abused by drivers for not using cyclepaths, even where they are sub-standard or useless.

Can't cycle along Hillside Passage
There's a nice cycle route along Mount Nod Road into Hillside Road that's interrupted by a short section of path marked "No Cycling". Adding a cycle path would remove an (unsigned) detour via Faygate Road.

Better cycle parking at Canterbury Asda
The cycle parking at Canterbury's Asda is conveniently located for the shop entrance, but doesn't properly secure or support bicycles. Hence parts of bicycles go missing and cyclists choose to secure to other street furniture.

Downing College now banning cycling through their grounds
Downing College are cracking down further on people cycling through the area. Gate now moved and is locked.
